Life Skool was founded and established in 2020 by Mr. Darius Pettway as a program aimed at breaking the cycle of incarceration for youth who are most vulnerable to entering the juvenile justice or adult correctional system. Through innovative leadership development programs, behavioral health counseling, conferences, life skill workshops, and opportunities for career pathway exploration, Life Skool equips and empowers young individuals with limited resources with the tools necessary to discover who they are.
Behavioral Health: Life Skool Behavioral Health Program, offers comprehensive therapy, anger management, skill development, and case management services. We provide support in the home, school, and community environments where students reside, ensuring accessible and effective care. This Medicaid-approved program is dedicated to
Probation Support Program: The Probation Support Program assists youth aged 11-17 who are currently under probation or parole community supervision. Designed to help participants complete their probation successfully, this program offers guidance and support to advance to the next phase in life. Whether it's re-enrolling in school, joining a GED program, or finding employment, the program aims to equip youth with the tools and resources they need for a brighter future.
Restorative Justice Program: Provides youthful offenders with a structured, uniform-based approach to accountability and healing. This program brings together offenders, victims, and community members in a curriculum guided community setting that prioritizes understanding and rehabilitation over punishment. By completing the program, participants can avoid criminal charges, giving them an opportunity to move forward without a record. Through close partnerships with juvenile departments and local communities, Life Skool ensures the program’s effectiveness by developing leadership identification, self empowerment and conflict resolution for youth who are ready to make positive changes.
Mentoring Program: The Mentoring Program is designed for middle and high school students and is offered during school elective hours. Focused on leadership development and behavior modification, this program aims to help students reset their behavior and return to class, contributing to the reduction of national and local dropout rates. By providing targeted support and guidance, the program embodies a positive school experience and encourages academic success and cultural enrichment field trips.
SCIP Program: Supporting Children with Incarcerated Parents (SCIP) Program is dedicated to supporting children who have incarcerated parents. This initiative provides emotional and practical assistance to help these children cope with the unique challenges they face. Through counseling, mentorship, and community support, the SCIP Program aims to build resilience, stability, and positive development for children in these difficult circumstances.
Leadership Workshop: Held for middle and high school students. Workshops are held approximately twice a month, focuses on leadership development through engaging modules, peer group activities, and community service projects. Participants enjoy a hot breakfast while engaging in valuable learning experiences and have the opportunity to win prizes. This workshop aims to cultivate strong leadership skills and a sense of community involvement.
